Shimmering purple violet statement earrings - Sappho’s favourite flowers!
Purple and lilac marbled acrylic with gold mirrored acrylic and hand-painted details. One wreath is engraved with an extract from Sappho’s fragment 147, and its pair is engraved with my English translation.

In Ancient Greece, violets were associated with Aphrodite and Apollo. The poet Pindar called Athens ‘violet-crowned’. Mentions of violets and purple-coloured flowers recur in Sappho’s poetry, and have become a symbol of queer and sapphic love.

These octopus vases were part of Plato’s Fire’s Minoan Marine collection back in August 2022.
For 2024, we’ve given them a little Valentine’s makeover and used bright pink marble acrylics to give a classic design from antiquity a very modern update.
This is the first time the Minoan octopus vases have been available as brooches!
